Vitamin D Deficiency Linked To Chronic Pain

When you go to your doctor with any form of chronic pain, it is almost guaranteed that they will treat you with an NSAID - non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. That will be the end of that and then they will send you on your way. What most doctors don't know is that there is an alternative treatment with scientific backup that is better for you than NSAIDs. The most common NSAIDs are ibuprofen and diclofenac, both which can be bought over the counter.  NSAIDs have side-effects that are unpleasant, ranging from strokes to heart attacks. Your chances of this increase by long-term and high-dose use.

A study on people with persistent non-specific musculoskeletal pain  done by a Mayo Clinic in 2002 showed that 93% were deficient in Vitamin D. Another study in Arabia on individuals with chronic low back pain showed that 83% had abnormally low levels of Vitamin D. In this study, when the individuals were treated with Vitamin D supplements, 95% showed improvement

As with all medical issues, consult your doctor before adding this to your diet. Vitamin D is one of those vitamins your body can have too much of. Remember our bodies synthesize Vitamin D from exposure to the sun. As we all know we can have too much sun. Be the same token, we can have too much Vitamin D. So it is always best to consult a knowledgeable doctor...
